At the end of Matthew’s Gospel Jesus gathers His group of followers and gives them an amazing mission to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28.19). The word “go” can also be translated “as you go” or “as you are going” or “while you are going.” It’s as if Jesus is saying, “follow my lead in your travels and as you go, tell others about me and help them follow me.”

For me, this message from Jesus seems simple and yet helping my friends, neighbors, co-workers and loved ones follow Jesus, feels really complicated at times. Maybe you’ve found “making disciples” a little complicated at times too. If so you’re in good company. I’ve talked with lots of followers of Jesus asking the questions like, “Where should I start?” or “What do I do next?” or “When will I know I am finished?” Thankfully, God has given us lots of help through the Scripture and His Spirit.

As we move into Summer we want to talk through a few practical steps of helping others follow Jesus in a four-week series entitled, “As You Go.” Through the series, we will look at the life of the Apostle Paul and learn from the things he said and did as he helped others follow Jesus.

  • First, starting with Paul’s conversion we will look at what it means to know Jesus.
  • Second, we will talk through things to consider when we go to others with the message of Jesus.
  • Third, we will study what it means to show someone the way and invite them to join us.
  • Lastly, we will learn what it means to continue to grow and develop the disciples we’ve made along the way.

I am so excited for this series to begin and I can’t wait to learn together what it means to follow the mission of when he said, “Go…”
